Godstock began in Feb. '99 in thought and became a reality in May of '99.
Lindsay Bowerman, a gentleman from Cape who seemed to really like WGCF and had heard that it was in serious financial trouble, called the station and asked me what he could do to help. He wanted to have a concert with several bands. He and Pastor Fred Borguard held the concert on December 22, 1998 in Cape Girardeau and raised around $500 or $600. It was prepared in less that 2 weeks, so they decided to have one the next spring and do one every year at the same time.
In the spring (February) while I was sitting in my office at WGCF, God spoke to my heart and told me that instead of just a regular concert He wanted a "Godstock". He said "There was a Woodstock forthe devil, I want a Godstock for Me." I truly did not know much about Woodstock and had to ask around to find out what it was all about and how it took place. (not that I’m all that young just that I wasn't aware of the event.)
I told Pastor Fred and Lindsay and Fred said that He thought that sounded great but where were we going to have it. Of course I didn't know and I asked God, "Where do you want this?" About 2 weeks later a lady called me from Jackson, Mo. She wanted to sing in the Spring Concert Lindsay and Fred were planning. I was out of the office when she called and thus called her back. Her mom, Carolyn, answered the phone and I left the message about the possibility of having a Godstock "somewhere". Carolyn told me that only 2 weeks earlier she had received a postcard in the mail letting her know that she and her husband, along with several other investors, were the proud owners of a campground.
When Arrowhead Campground in Grassy, Missouri was being sold, the families that camped there for years decided that rather than have it shut down they would buy it. Therefore sixteen families now own Arrowhead and we were told we could use the site for our Godstock. As Pastor Fred and I discussed "Godstock", he made the comment, "When we have PORT-A-POTTIES I’llget on the band wagon." Well, within 2weeks during another phone call and discussion about Godstock, I said "But we have to have port-a-potties or Pastor Fred will not sponsor us!" This individual told me that a friend in their church had said about a month earlier, he had a port-a-potty business and that he wanted to donate them to any Christian event. I called Pastor Fred and said "We have the potties! What else do you need?" His answer was "lets get busy".
Within 2 months, May of '99, we held the first Godstock at Arrowhead Campground. We had over 850 people who come through the gate either to preform or visit. There were 12 bands and 5 individual singers as well as some quartets. We also had five individual speakers. Several people gave their hearts to the Lord and several were Baptized. I really hope we never become agroup of numbers, our crowd attendance is only known because of the camping fees or the entry fee which goes to the charity of the Lord’s choice. In '99 it went to WGCF. I received calls for weeks about the changes in the lives that had taken place and that was what the Lord had promised us.
We are all interested in the same thing, and that is a greater walk with Yahweh, Christ and the Spirit. Father told us if we would SEEK we would FIND and that if you seek me you will find me.
